Damien Santamaria

Ceramic Sculptor

DAMIEN SANTAMARIA-CERAMIC SCULPTOR    Victoria, Australia

Damien Santamaria has been hand sculpting native creatures using his self-taught technique since 1982. Each salvaged Mallee root timber base has been chosen to complement the life-like animal or bird ceramic sculpture. The sculpture is double fired and made with using white firing Raku clay and double fired – Non-lead-based glazes and under-glazes are used.  He incises the details into each individually made piece using a pencil as a tool. The creatures are bonded to their landscape using metal pins and  Araldyte glue.

As the pieces are double fired, they can be placed inside or outside in a protected position.

Each piece of re-claimed Mallee root timber is cleaned and heat-treated so it is fine for export.

We have safely posted Damien’s wildlife sculptures around the world for over 25 years using Australia Post.

Please feel free to contact us about a custom-made piece.  Price is based on the size of the ceramic sculpture.  Damien has made life-sized pelicans, emu heads, suspended pieces, animals attached to old traps and farm implements and sculptures with multiple creatures.
